Who are we ...

Greensleeves were founded in 1926, making us one of the longest established Morris sides.  Initially we were based in central London but moved to Wimbledon in 1980.

How to recognise us ...

Our kit consists of white shirts, black breeches with a red belt, white socks and black shoes. We wear green baldrics with red and black rosettes.  Full members wear green arm bands which are earned after performing a solo jig in public.

Our dances ...

Our core repertoire is based on the dances of the villages of Fieldtown in Oxfordshire and Sherborne in Gloucestershire.  We also dance dances from other villages in the Cotswolds, the Welsh borders and Lichfield in Staffordshire.

We regularly perform figures from the North Skelton longsword dance from Yorkshire.  For this we remove our baldrics and bells and wear green cummerbunds.

Around Christmas we perform the traditional Wimbledon mummers play.

Our music ...

We dance to pipe and tabor, melodeon, piano accordion, concertina and violin.

Other characters ...

Greensleeves are often accompanied by an animal called Hengist and by one of number of fools.
